Colorado State Fair
The Colorado State Fair is a 16-day lively celebration of the people, agriculture, art, music, natural resources and industries that collectively make Colorado an incredible place to call home. The 100-acre State Fairgrounds in Pueblo welcomes dozens of headline concerts, livestock shows, horse shows and art exhibits, eight nights of professional rodeo action, one of the country's largest traveling carnivals, and foods to satisfy every craving. The Colorado State Fair also is home to one of the region's largest fiesta celebrations. But there’s more! Dozens of unique feature attractions will welcome fairgoers. These attractions in 2002 included:

Helicopter Rides
To see the fair from a different perspective, Fairgoers can take a 2½-mile ride in a three-seated (pilot in the middle) M.A.S.H.-style helicopter. The helicopter rides are located just outside of Gate 2 in the Preferred Parking Lot. Night flights are available, too!

Robinson’s Pig Paddling Porkers (formerly Robinson’s Racing Pigs)
Last year they ran around a track; this year they swim! Robinson's Pig Paddling Porkers race, dive and swim to the finish line for the coveted prize – an Oreo Cookie. Fairgoers can root on their favorite pig as the announcer gives play-by-play action of the chubby swine going for a competitive dip. Race times Monday through Thursday are 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Friday through Sunday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Giant Animals
“Larger than life” is understatement when describing the Beimborn family’s prize animals that will be showcased during the State Fair. The massive trio includes "Harley" the Giant Hog, who weighs more than 1,000 pounds; "Hercules" the Giant Horse, who stands 19 ½ hands at the withers (6'6" tall) and weights 2,850 pounds; and "White Mountain" the Giant Steer who stands 6'8" at the shoulder, is 11 ½-feet long and weighs a whopping 3,450 pounds.

Children’s Barnyard
The Children’s Barnyard is a hands-on favorite of all ages. The Future Farmers of America participants work hard year-round taking care of the many different breeds of livestock featured in the Barnyard. Fair visitors can see mother and baby animals representing a variety of species and breeds.

Sand Sculpture
Sponsored by the Colorado Lottery, fairgoers annually rate the Sand Sculpture as their favorite exhibit. Watch the pure magic of Sandscapes' artist as they transform a 300-ton mound of sand into a magnificent work of art. This work-in-progress will feature an astonishing theme that only the artists' imaginations could create. Last year, they created Jurassic Pueblo. This year the theme is “Warner Bros.” Sandscapes will bring classic cartoon favorites to life throughout the 16-day State Fair.

Quad Power Jump
The Quad Power Jump, the world's first four-person jumping apparatus, is back by popular demand. With its amazing new structure, a jumper can attain unbelievable heights with its newly patented multiple elastics system. 4-Zone Climbing Wall The 4-Zone Climbing Wall features a zone easy enough for a novice or a more challenging zone for the experienced rock climber. It's extremely safe, and its lowering system eliminates human error. Ejection Seat (sponsored by Spa Palace) Utilizing a twin-tower design, the Ejection Seat bungee ride allows participants to experience the thrills of "riding a rocket" up to 100 feet vertically in the air! With up to two people per ride, riders can capture their "look of terror" or "look of sheer thrill" on a video, which they can purchase as they exit the ride.

World Champion Mutton Bustin’
Every kid who dreams of being a cowboy or cowgirl can get a taste of true competition by competing in the Fair’s World Champion Mutton Bustin’ (sheep riding) competition. Daily competitions are located in Recreation Park near the Entertainment Tent. The winners from each daily competition are invited back Sept. 1 to ride for the title of World Champion Mutton Buster. A $1,000 savings bond is awarded to the winner, and every qualifier goes home with a trophy buckle. Parents must register their children in advance at the registration table located near the mutton bustin’ arena. The cost per child is $10 per competition (non-refundable). Competition times are 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Paintless Paintball
Participants at this unique attraction compete against friends, family, and other fairgoers in an electronically scored paintless paintball target game. Competitors use paintball guns loaded with rubber balls to shoot targets for points. The paintless rubber balls eliminate stains and mess and are environmentally safe. Straight shooters will win prizes!

Boxing and Jousting Ring
The Boxing and Jousting Ring offers fairgoers fame as a Gladiator or champion heavyweight. Participants in the Jousting Ring will have the opportunity to knock another Gladiator off his or her pedestal with a padded jousting pole. In the boxing ring fairgoers use 3-foot inflatable gloves to knock down their competitor. Both attractions have equipment in adult and kid sizes.

World’s Largest Piggy Bank Slide
This 12-foot tall, 25-foot long giant piggy bank is the only one of its kind. Kids and parents can take an exhilarating ride into the belly of this massive pig and make a hilarious “piggy-tail” exit on a slide. The piggy bank slide was created more than 46 years ago and is a constant favorite at fairs and festivals around the nation.

Antique Farm Equipment Show
Fairgoers can take a trip back in time and see just how far agricultural methods and equipment have come. The Antique Farm Equipment Show features an extraordinary display of early-day tractors and farm equipment fully restored and in mint condition.

The Colorado State Fair which concluded September 1, 2002, welcomed 667,457 visitors. The final total is 30,359 visitors ahead of the 2001 State Fair attendance of 637,098, an impressive increase considering the 2002 State Fair was one day shorter than the 2001 State Fair. The Colorado State Fair traditionally has extended into Labor Day, but Fair officials in 2002 decided to shorten the State Fair to 16 days by ending the Fair the Sunday before Labor Day.
